Legal Assistant - 1 Year Term

In your role as Legal Assistant (1 year term), you will be supporting lawyers and legal professionals in NWC’s legal department, primarily assisting with matters relating to civil litigation, administrative dispute resolution and customer incidents, as well as providing administrative support to the legal team. You must be able to work independently but collaboratively and practically within a high performance environment. The position will also support other various business needs as required.

Your Role:

  • Initiate and manage litigation and customer incident intake, tracking and reporting processes. 
  • Track, code and pay invoices and expense claims.
  • Prepare closing books.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Draft, proofread and format documents, including correspondence and certain court and administrative tribunal documents.
  • Other duties as requested by NWC’s legal counsel.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in similar positions.
  • Law firm or in-house legal department experience preferred. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented with strong writing, proofreading and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work within tight timelines to meet deadlines, reassessing priorities as needed.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal clients, external counsel and other business partners.
