Business Manager – Private Brands

In your role as Business Manager – Private Brands, you will be responsible for defining strategic, tactical, and financial plans for the private brand category. This role will focus on managing the Profit and Loss (P&L), conducting category reviews, developing category strategies, and creating promotional plans for the Private Label assortment. The individual in this role will be accountable for the financial performance of the private brands, requiring consistent monitoring against budgeted targets. In addition to financial management, the position is also responsible for talent management, including staffing, training, and performance management within the Private Brands team.

Your Role:

  • Work collaboratively with Senior Category Managers (CMs) to align private brand strategies within each category across Food and General Merchandise.
  • Analyze market potential and competitor positions for private brands.
  • Understand customer buying patterns and trends to develop relevant strategies and product opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Category Management teams to optimize assortments and improve in-store merchandising.
  • Be accountable for the sales, gross margin, and gross profit performance of Private Brands.
  • Continuously monitor sales, margins, and inventory performance for private brands.
  • Support Senior CMs and the VP in the development of departmental budgets and private label penetration targets.
  • Foster and manage strong relationships with suppliers to drive sales and profitable growth for Private Brands.
  • Work with the NCR Marketing team to develop marketing and product materials for Private Brands.
  • Analyze promotional performance and identify new opportunities to enhance private brand offerings.
  • Category budget and financial accountability affecting multiple business units
  • Accountable for volume rebates from private brands supplier contracts
  • Responsible for talent management for their direct reports including staffing, training, coaching and performance management.
  • Travel up to 35 days a year.

Desired Skills & Experience:
 
  • Post-secondary education in Commerce, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 5+ years of experience in a category management role.
  • Experience in Private Brand management is considered a strong asset.
  • Solid experience with MS Office Suite, with high proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong facilitation, influencing, and relationship management skills.
  • Exceptional project management, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High financial acumen
  • Must have demonstrated good written and verbal communication skill.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills with strong attention to detail.
