In your role as the Department Manager, Grocery - Term at The North West Company (TNWC); you will oversee daily grocery distribution operations, including the safe and efficient receipt, storage, selection, and shipping of products. You will also manage the grocery selection team to ensure timely order completion aligned with store shipping schedules, while leading a team of supervisors and associates to achieve service, quality, and productivity targets, while maintaining a positive and safe work environment.

Your Role:
- Oversees accurate and sequential selection of grocery orders to ensure readiness for shipping according to the daily schedule.
- Allocates staff based on workload and ensures adequate coverage across all selection zones.
- Coordinates with Outbound to meet on-time departures and maintain outbound flow.
- Monitors pick slot replenishment and addresses damaged merchandise to support productivity.
- Stages orders by route and ensures safe palletizing for efficient, safe dock usage and optimal loading.
- Ensures selected employees are trained in handling high-value shipments and that the tobacco cage is monitored for security infractions.
- Collaborates with the inventory team to conduct audits three times a day, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of high-value shipments.
- Manages departmental employee labor relations, ensuring staff schedules meet business needs and vacation requests are approved.
- Manages staffing levels according to volume to achieve daily budget numbers and ensures the warehouse is stocked, with pick locations replenished and ready to pick.
- Conducts and approves annual employee reviews, ensuring staff are trained, cross-trained, and adhere to company policies and safety practices.
- Oversees the safe stacking and building of grocery pallets in accordance with pallet configurations.
- Monitors payroll budget versus actual spend, and manages departmental productivity to meet business goals.
- Fosters positive communication with employees and collaborates with HR on recruitment and interviewing.
- Manages time & attendance and addresses disciplinary issues.
- Actively participates as a member of the WLSC Senior Management Team, attending meetings and contributing positively while exploring opportunities for business process improvements.
- Manages controllable expenses to meet business goals.
- Maintains departmental KPIs and promotes a positive team and work environment for the entire WLSC.
Desired Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience with TNWC or similar internal role.
- Grade 12 education required, with post-secondary preferred and CITT/PLog designation.
- Proficient in PC skills, including Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office.
- Certification in the operation of relevant equipment and machinery is an asset.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to motivate staff and delegate effectively to Supervisors and Lead Hands.
- Versed in Retek, Red Prairie, and Manpower plans is an asset.
- Capable of handling fluctuating volumes and multitasking effectively.
