Supervisor - Grocery (Days) - Term

Shift: Sunday (8:30 AM – 7:00 PM), Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (9:30 AM – 8:00 PM)
In your role as Supervisor, Days in the Grocery Department, at The North West Company (NWC) you will provide assistance to the grocery department employees involving the selection of all grocery commodities for The North West Company.

Your Role:
- Provides assistance to the Grocery, Manager with the selection of goods at the Logistics Centre;
- Provides assistance to grocery department during shifts as needed and reports any issue to the Grocery, Manager;
- Provides ongoing assistance to the selectors during the shift to solve issues and create a cooperative working environment;
- Provides coaching, task delegation and follow up to ensure Grocery Department employees are working in their assigned areas to provide adequate coverage for all processes;
- Provides coaching of selection procedures and pallet building;
- Ensures all employees are working and maintaining a safe work environment as per Health and Safety Legislation by reporting all violations and potential hazards to the Grocery Manager;
- Performs quality control checks and freight inspections as required by the Grocery Manager;
- Ensures selectors are stacking and building pallets suitable for the transportation chain, and that best practices are followed at the Logistics Centre;
- Locates missing goods and ensures immediate actions are taken to resolve any potential shortages;
- Provides advice on maintaining and improving cost effective ways to select product.
- Works with Grocery Manager to reduce the amount of re-handling of product regarding pallet building;
- Ensures loads are securely wrapped and positioned properly in staging lanes by doing spot checks; and
- Works in coordination with the Winnipeg Logistics Service Centre Management Team on the selection and staging of product through the facility, the shipping department on staging zones and the Maintenance Manager on equipment issues.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Previous distribution experience at The North West Company’s WLSC (Winnipeg Logistics Service Center) or CMF (Crescent Multi Foods) is required.
- Supervisory experience required and/or proven leadership skills with the ability to build and develop capable teams for continual improvement and experience in delegating and task assignment;
- Previous warehouse experience involving order picking, shipping and/or receiving required, coupled with standard operating procedures for warehouse operations;
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) an asset;
- CITT designation or currently enrolled in a transportation or logistics program an asset; along with forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification;
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads;
- Capable of operation of a computer and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Ability to deal with employee concerns in a professional and confidential manner;
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a team or independently;
- Demonstrated customer service skills;
- Capable of lifting up to 70 lbs. unaided on a regular basis; and
- Must be available to work other shifts and hours for coverage of vacation and illness as required.
