Financial Services Compliance Analyst

In this position, you play a key role in the areas of risk and compliance by ensuring all legal and regulatory compliance industry standards are met. You assist in the development of analytics and product strategy, as well as support operational decisions across the financial services offered by NWC.

Your Role:

Compliance Monitoring & Risk Assessment

  • Assist in conducting daily, weekly, and monthly compliance reviews by identifying unusual, potentially suspicious, or high‑risk transactions;
  • Review transaction alerts, patterns, and trends to support the identification and escalation of Unusual Activity Report;
  • Support compliance with FINTRAC requirements, including:
    • Ongoing transaction monitoring
    • Identification and escalation of unusual or suspicious activity
    • Preparation and support of regulatory reporting such as Unusual Activity Reports (UARs), Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Large Cash Transaction Reports (LCTRs), where applicable;
  • Assess, implement, and maintain a continuous compliance program aligned with MSB and PSP regulatory requirements, including AML/ATF controls and reporting obligations;
  • Monitor regulatory updates, guidance, and enforcement actions related to MSB, PSP, and FINTRAC requirements and assess impact to business operations;
  • Assist in maintaining MSB and PSP compliance policies, procedures, regulatory mappings, and internal controls.

Reporting & Data Analysis
  • Analyze high-volume transactional and compliance data to identify suspicious activity and support timely regulatory reporting;
  • Develop and deliver prescribed compliance reporting, including metrics related to UAR volume, STR filings, monitoring effectiveness, and risk trends;
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and database mining to support compliance investigations, product teams, business managers, and risk management;
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and traceability across compliance, UAR, and regulatory reporting outputs;
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of Financial Services KPIs and compliance metrics;
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for UAR handling, escalation, and regulatory reporting.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or an equivalent combination of education/training, and experience;
  • CAMS, CFCS, or similar certification (or in progress) is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Excel. Power BI and SQL knowledge is considered an asset;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven team player abilities;
  • Effective communication both in person, by phone and in writing;
  • Highly organized and self-motivated;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data;
  • Ability to analyze specific details and or components of a problem without losing perspective of the bigger picture and or project goals;
  • Ability to learn concepts and industry best practices with an aptitude to apply this knowledge in a dynamic and active business environment; and
  • Strong business acumen.
