In your role as the Foreman, Construction, you oversee and execute The North West Company’s (NWC) construction projects, as administered by the NWC Chief Development Office. You’re on-site managing NWC Crews/Trades, along with sub-contractors, as required, to deliver the projects in the most economical and efficient manner.

Your Role:
Deliver project as per plan in accordance with NWC Standards and Specifications;
Conduct Tool Box Talks daily and advise of any safety concerns;
Assignment of tasks to NWC Crew and sub-trades;
Manage NWC Construction Crew;
Submit timesheets, expense forms, and all other administrative forms as required;
Mentor all members of NWC Crew to ensure development, and source, hire, and manage local resources as required;
Ensure project scope and schedule are executed and maintained;
Advise PM team of any variances to schedule and/or material issues;
Manage project schedule, identifying any pressure in scheduling to PM team;
Manage on-site day-to-day operations for NWC projects;
Travel to site with required tools and equipment and manage inventory and materials;
Oversee receiving and consolidation of freight/deliveries (winter road and sealift);
Schedule NWC Crew and sub-trades;
Install store fixtures and equipment as per NWC store layout;
Work with Store Operations during construction;
Communicate phasing plans and work details of the project; and
Advise PM team of any operational requests/changes to project scope or phasing, as identified byStore Operations.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Must be a Journeyman/Red-Seal Carpenter with appropriate documentation;
Minimum experience of 10 years as a Carpenter;
Must be able to read and interpret all construction plans and documents;
Experience in retail construction is an asset;
Ability to effectively multi-task and troubleshoot issues as they arise;
Must be able to work well with others and maintain positive relationships and a safe workplace;
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to lead and have clear communication skills; and
Experience working in remote communities for a minimum of 5 years is a major asset.
Compensation & Benefits:
NWC provides work boot allowance, required PPE and major tools, and safety training.
Travel, accommodation, and food expenses during project work are covered.(Travel to/from airport excluded)
Employees are eligible for overtime remuneration at 1.5x the hourly rate after 40 hours per week; and holidays are paid at 2x the hourly rate.
