Transportation Coordinator

In your role as the Outbound and Inbound Transportation Coordinator, at The North West Company (NWC), you will coordinate assigned transportation services for Canadian operations. You will be integral in ensuring that transportation operations supports the corporate strategy and planned key initiatives while optimizing service levels and cost effectiveness for assigned network partners.

Your Role:
  • Coordinate the company’s outbound and inbound transportation operation (year round and seasonal) to provide timely delivery at a controlled cost.
  • Arrange transportation of goods on behalf of internal NWC stakeholders, both within and outside of Logistics.
  • Communicate to all relevant parties the expectations of a scheduled shipment and the status of an open shipment, through to delivery.
  • Ensure costs are within expected levels and aligned to any provided budget.
  • Provide second tier service desk ticket support within the allotted resolution timeline.
  • Cultivate and maintain logistics partner relationships for greater efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Develop reliable connections with carrier partners that allow you to achieve the company’s transportation goals.
  • Benchmark service providers and procedures with other companies.
  • Both within and outside our network provide benchmarks to improve NWC’s logistics partners.
  • Work with logistics partners to achieve increased performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop initiatives that support NWC through logistics excellence.


Desired Skills & Experience:
  • 3 years industry experience as a logistician
  • Post-secondary education with a preference for those specializing with a major in Supply Chain and Logistics;
  • Previous education in, or experience, using transportation and financial modeling tools;
  • Ability to monitor Key Performance Metrics and make business adjustments to align with expectations;
  • Previous experience working with the Oracle Transportation Management System is preferred;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word;
  • An understanding of the NWC transportation network and the variety of transportation modes used is considered an asset;
  • A high degree of curiosity, discovery, and willingness to work through complex scenarios with multiple technical systems;
  • Proven organizational, planning and prioritizing skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and assignments;
  • Detail conscious while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and a demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of internal and external customers;
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; and,
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
